Our Mission Statement
USMI Outreach is dedicated to helping the individual who cannot help themselves at the moment, but who are looking for an opportunity to live today to make a better life for tomorrow. We trust in our fellows and our Higher Power to bring lives to a better place so that they can maybe be the one helping others in the future.
USMI Outreach Efforts in January 2024
Army GWPOT Veteran – Hampton VA
Provided funds for back rent so veteran could stay in apartment after not working during hospital stay
Navy Veteran – Norfolk, VA
Provided apartment security deposit so veteran could move off the street
Marine Veteran – Portsmouth, VA
Provided back pay on utility bill as veteran recovers from an apartment cost increase and rebalances his monthly expenses
Marine Vietnam Veteran – Hampton, VA
Provided security deposit for new apartment due to increase in previous apartment would not allow him to live within his fixed income in the previous apartment
Army Veteran – Norfolk VA
Application fee and holding fee for veteran to move off the streets into an apartment
Navy and Army GWOT Veteran – Biloxi, MS
Temporary rent provided until permanent housing for family can be obtained
Army Veteran – Poquoson, VA
Renters insurance due to increase in apartment rental and fixed income made financing this change challenging
Past Projects
Application and Security Fees for housing
- Nov 2023 Navy Veteran moved into apartment, had been living in a bus stop
- Nov 2023 Army GWOT Veteran moved into apartment from being homeless
- Nov 2023 Marine GWOT Veteran moved into apartment from being homeless
Water and Electrical Assistance
- Army Vietnam Veteran water was cut off, bill paid, water restored
- Air Force Veteran, electricity cut off, bill paid, electricity restored
Transportation Assistance
- Army veteran need transportation to work, 1 mile away, procured bike and accessories
Quality of Life
- Army veteran with matters that were infested, funded services to clear infestation
- Navy Korean veteran with infestation caused by neighbors in senior living community, cleaned and treated apartment. Procured couch that he could get in and out of
- Navy GWOT veteran moved to a new apartment to be closer to work to save money. New apartment was larger. Funded back rent on storage unit so that her children could retrieve toys and other items
- Navy GWOT veteran victim of domestic violence. Funded repairs to her apartment so she could pay for damages due to violence and move to a new safe location
- Navy Special Operations veteran – Supported in home care after back surgery
Transition from VA Hospitalization
- Army Veteran provided hotel and groceries for 30 days until housing and a disability checks arrived
